Clubhouse

A little over 6 months after the sinking of the Titanic, a group of 68 residents of Roe Green and Worsley petitioned the 3rd Earl of Ellesmere asking for land to be provided for the creation of a 9 hole golf course. On the 14th February 1913 the inaugural meeting of the new club was held and the new golf club came into being.
There have been many changes in the over 110 years since then. One building remains. The original clubhouse became the professionals golf shop when in 1923 the new pavilion style clubhouse was built.
The first president was The Earl of Ellesmere and the club was established primarily for the workers and families of the Bridgewater estates.
In 1928 additional land had been acquired and 18 holes came into play. I the early days no golf or alcohol was permitted on Sundays but eventually that changed.
The current clubhouse was completely rebuilt in 1996 around the existing interior and overlooks the picturesque 18th green. The Clubhouse is a single story building featuring three separate lounges, the Centenary Lounge, The Ellesmere Lounge and the Bridgewater Lounge with access to all members and in addition, access to the Ladies and Gent’s locker rooms with shower / toilet facilities. Further enhancements to the interior of the clubhouse are ongoing

Visitors and members alike can enjoy the challenge of playing a course that is in immaculate condition as well as the excellent social facilities on offer in the clubhouse. The Ellesmere Lounge hosts a full size snooker table adding even more enjoyment to your visit. Enjoy a game of snooker and a chat in the the quiet surroundings of the lounge. Sky Sports TV is a feature in the Ellesmere Lounge for your further entertainment.
Aside from the welcoming and congenial atmosphere, the refreshments menu is excellent and the bar well stocked. We offer a variety of catering packages that can be tailored to your group.
